This collage was made by Elisabetta Gut, it is called “The Firebird” (From Stravinsky),1985.  This artwork is a three dimensional collage. the composition of this collage is arranged in many different shapes with the main colors being white, black, and orange. The design principles that are present in this collage are first unity because although each part of the collage is its own shape they all have the sense of belonging together. There is also a lot of variety in this collage the different shapes and the main colors provide interest and contrast. They also provide a visual rhythm with the shapes that although they are different they are similar in the colors. This collage is asymmetrical because the two sides of the image do not correspond to one another in size and placement and it would not be a mirror image if it was divided in half. The emphasis and focal point which is a specific spot to which one’s attention is directed to is to the orange top left side of the collage. The angle/ viewpoint of this collage is above eye level you are looking down into the middle of the art work it seems like the artwork is going to pop out of the page. I see many different shapes in this collage for example I see the letter R in the bottom as well as something that looks like a bird in the top which leads me to believe the artist had a wide range of sources while getting the shapes to put into the art work maybe newspapers and magazines. It also seems like there are things also drawn in the white paper in which the object is on giving it an appearance that the image is emerging from the paper.

  1. Kiara- what a fabulous example of a collage- 3d! God job. I'm not sure there is a focal point though, it kind of makes you look all over instead of at one specific place.
