Assignment#1

We can see art all over the place. There are no place where we can't find art, even nowadays human body is also becomes a source of art. If you look around, we will find that most visible arts we can see easily are created for commercial purposes. Public transportation like train, bus, home, school, college, street, park and so on are the places where we can find any type of art. No matter where we can see art work, every arts carries meaning. Sometimes one art can show different meanings in same time. I found a huge collection of art in our college. Every hallway of LaGuardia community college looks like art gallery. This picture I took from one of the Hallway of C building.  First of all, this is a 2D painting, because it viewed from one plane and the artist used water color to creat it. May be the artist make the art to create place for human purpose. May be to construct a meaningful image and form. To me the art represents three different points of view in a same situation and environment. First monkey looks like frustrate or confused, second one is carrying high anger and third one looks relaxed and happy. May be the artist wanted to represent how human can react differently in a same situation. Or May be the artist wanted to present three different way to show anger. I think this a meaningful and successful art because this creation can make an image in anyone's mind.

Homework Assignment # 1

For this week's assignment, I decided to use a black and white photo of James Dean that I came across while at a friend's house. In my opinion, the photographer perfectly captures the legendary "cool" of the young man. Unbeknownst to Dean, his time on the earth was about to end, and it is mostly from pictures like this that he is still fondly remembered today. I love the symmetry that is present throughout the shot and the framing is spectacular. I have an art background, and have used practically every medium from charcoal to oil paints, however, though I've always had an interest in photography I sincerely regret never pursuing it as a hobby. I find a good photo inspirational, and it is usually enough motivation for me to dig up my sketchpad. 

Assignment ## 1

Art has become a part of our everyday life. I encounter art in my college, streets, subway, malls in fact Art is everywhere. May be sometimes I pay attention and sometimes don’t but whenever I do it fascinates me. Some arts are visual form of imagination while others have messages or stories behind them. Sometimes the messages are thought provoking that make us think in the way we have never thought. The form of this art that I have shared is 2D form. The purpose of this art is to give tangible form to feelings and ideas. While I was on the way to my class this painting made me stop by and to look at it. Surely this painting has a story behind it. The look of this woman in the painting is reflecting her emotion. The anxious or fearful look on her face makes me imagine her feelings or what she is going through. This painting is symbolizing suffering and despair.

HW-Assignment 1

Art surrounds us everyday in all of our daily activities and in our surroundings, whether we realize it or not. May times we're in such a rush to get to where we're going we bypass these simple things in life. Simple things that brings us visual satisfaction. Art isn't only appreciated in museums and galleries, we also welcome art into our homes. This is a painting on canvas found in my living room. When I came across this painting it made me stop and really dissect it. I found myself starring at this painting wondering what does it mean to me, what is the message the artist is conveying. We all view pieces of art differently from one another, what some think is beautiful others may disagree. I loved this piece because of the initial reaction I got when spotted. To me this painting means life…similar to "the tree of life" well maybe not as detailed as some may imagine what it would look like. I saw peace and felt peaceful, who wouldn't appreciate some peace in their home. To me it brings warmth and brightens up the space especially with the painting being very large on the wall. The colors the artist used really complimented each other as well as matched the color palette of my living room. This painting on canvas is a 2D form. According to the 7 categories I do think it was successful in it's purpose. It's successful in the sense that it refreshes our vision and view the world in a different way. 

R.I.P. 5POINTZ -- Homework #1

This piece of art was located in Five Point before it was removed no too long ago. Considered multiple 2D creations on a 3D structure, many pieces of graffiti were marked on this building. It was a beautiful sight when riding the 7 train in the morning and nice landmark when traveling back to the city. This special piece had many purposes as a piece of art. It was able to construct meaningful images the represented the people who made them. Many people feel as if they have lost a part of their daily routine by having this large piece removed. By having a piece showing Bigge, it commemorated his huge impact to his listeners. Creators are inspired by great things. This was made to continue his legacy to allow future generations to learn about his story. One could also interpret these images as extraordinary versions of the creators and their way of being. Graffiti by itself is an extension of the person's views on the subject. By expressing ideas in such a way, it transforms a basic idea into something else. Not necessarily something greater, but something different that allows more of an expansion to how the mind can think. The feeling have been crafted onto these walls. Though they are not in theory tangible, the building itself serves as a vessel holding the emotions of every single person who was able to paint this structure with their respective beliefs. And finally, this served as a place for people to see how the world truly is, beyond all the hate. Seeing all the images could show one how to join together and become stronger as a community. 

Assignment #1

We see art all around us everyday whether its the architecture of a building or a billboard down a highway everything is art in itself. Everything we see and touch is art, art is all everywhere. I see art everyday all around my neighborhood, while taking my daily walk to and from the train station to my apartment i see this painting below, it is painted on a large wall near a park, this is called a mural. This painting has been in that wall for many years,ever since i moved to my current address which was around fourteen years ago. This is a two dimensional painting because it is flat on a surface and we can't see behind nor around it . The main purpose of this painting based on the seven categories we discussed in class is to construct meaningful images and forms to feeling and ideas, it is also to commemorate someone who is no longer living, i know this because there is a quote on the painting that says “ No farewell words” were spoken, no time to say goodbye, you were gone before we knew it and only god knows why.”  I can tell many things from the person that passed away just by looking at the painting. First i can tell that the person was from Puerto Rico, and also i think that the lion in the painting represents that he was a fighter and a warrior. It also seems like this person was known and loved by many to have a mural painted of him.

Assignment #1

I am able to see art possibly just about any where these days. Growing up I saw art while walking around the city, taking the seven train seeing where Five-Points use to be and while living in different parts of Queens. I now live in College Point and there I saw a 3D sculpture of space shuttle Columbia. The space shuttle sculpture is located on a school ground named PS.193. The purpose of the 3D sculpture is to record and commemorate. The space shuttle Columbia sculpture is to commemorate the people who lost their lives on February 1, 2003. Also helps family and close friends commemorate the lost of their loved ones who were on the space shuttle Columbia. Also the purpose of the 3D sculpture is to have created a meaningful form of art. The 3D space shuttle Columbia honors a time in history where seven astronauts were unfortunately killed. This form of a 3D sculpture honors a disaster that in history is the second worst tragedy in NASA and keeps the seven lives of the astronauts in memory. The seven astronauts who lost their lives on space shuttle Columbia and are remembered on February 1, 2003 are Rick D. Husband, William C. McCool, Michael P. Anderson, Kalpana Chawla, David M. Brown, Laurel Clark and Llan Roman. I feel like the purpose of the 3D sculpture was successful. The 3D sculpture was created to be meaningful and allow others to commemorate. It does help keep the history of the event in memory as well as the seven astronauts.

 

Assignment #1

In all of our eyes, art is seen everywhere. You see art every day at home, in schools, subways, parks, museums, restaurants, streets, malls etc. Many different types of art around the world can symbolize different types of feelings, moods, stories and lives. Every time I’m outdoors there is always a piece of art work that grabs my attention in many ways. Looking at different designs, shapes and colors paintings is interesting, creative and fun to me. For example the painting above is located in the hallway of my apartment building. This specific painting is a 2D painting with beautiful acrylic colors, weird shapes and an uncommon design. This artist used dark colors and light colors to make the painting realistic and visual. It has a blur to it that makes it hard to see what the painting really is which creates a reason for people to look at it and find its meaning. I think the purpose of this painting is to give tangible forms of feelings and ideas to its audience because the artist seems like an abstract painter that uses these types of unknown designs to express their feelings and thoughts. This painting has a combination of geometric shapes that gives a visual of pieces to a puzzle. One side of the painting has a darker view than the other which can symbolize mixed feelings. But in my perspective this painting can show various emotions or happy and sad memories within the path of life.

In high school, I went on a boat ride and this is the closest I ever came to the Statue of Liberty. This is a 2D sculpture that was built to record and commemorate. This statue represents our freedom as Americans and it is most celebrated on the 4th of July, also known as Independence Day. I think it is important to know what this statue means and why people, such as tourists travel from around the world to come see it. Unfortunately, I don't know who sculpted or designed the statue but I think they did it to really signify what our country means and all that we've fought for and who we are as a country today.

In our daily life it  is hard to realize little things that for one or another reason we miss, especially for those who live in New York City. I ride the train every single day and every single day I saw this pic. I guess most of you guys have seen it. The first time that I saw it, it attracted my attention due to the fact that this pic describes how the life of those who ride the train is. I felt really familiar with this pic because in my daily life I have seen all the events that the artist is transmitting in the pic. This is a 2D painting. In my opinion this is a wonderful picture which describes what we see on the subways every day , from the most minimum thing until the most strange or extravagant thing. I think that the purpose of the artist is to make us realize that we live surround of people from different cultures and that we don’t realize that because we are no paying attention to those little things. We see all those things as normal things just for the fact that we are living here in this country where what can be estrange or weird for a person from another country  is normal for people who live here because they are use to it. If I had seen this pic in my country I would think that it was something that someone made it up, because in my country you don’t see things like this often,and when we see it we pay attention to it. I believe that the artist succeed with this painting, he did a really good job. He refreshes our vision to see the world or things around us in a new way.

                  Around the world there are different kinds of art work. Some of them are shapes, paintings or objects that have a valuable meaning for those who create them. In some art works, by just seeing the colors or the way that the art work has been painted, we can also see the kind of emotion that the artist tryst to describe. The painting above is located in my house's living room, as you can see is in 2D. In this image I can see an eagle that looks like is trying to hunt. In terms of art I can see that the artist is showing his love for mother nature or his loves towards this kind of animals. Also by just seeing this eagle, the sky and the mountains behind, in my opinion this image reflects a feeling of freedom.

Week One Home Work

I see art pretty much everywhere.  There are painted skateboards on the walls in my bedroom, there are paintings and decorative lamps and mirrors in my living room.  There is a massive wind chime and candle holder there, too.  There are some pretty incredible mosaics at the entrances and inside a lot of subway stations.  I passed a small courtyard with a fairly ordinary bench and small table in it and on the bench is a ceramic monkey.  I see graffiti all over the place.  There is graffiti on walls and roofs and pretty much everyplace you can get to on some buildings; it’s on lamp posts and fire hydrants.  Almost every bathroom stall I’ve been in has had some graffiti on the walls.  There is one place that I hadn’t seen graffiti before I moved to New York that I have noticed it quite frequently since moving here.  Vehicles.  I don’t think I had ever noticed it on vehicles outside of the city the way I’ve seen it here.  I saw this truck as I was walking to the subway from my old apartment.  This particular piece of art is 2D and it is a painting.  I think the purpose of it is to create an extraordinary version of an ordinary box truck and probably to refresh our vision and to help people see the world in a new way.  By turning something that is used only to move freight around the city into a colorful piece of moving artwork that everyone in the city can see, this bit of art is hopefully able to change the way that some people think of what art is and where it should or could be.

I see arts at everywhere; I see it in my bedroom, living room, and subway, at college and lots at my niece’s school. It’s not just in this country I saw it every other countries because people use art as a tool or universal language to express their feeling, thoughts, and view. Since words are limited they use art to tell the story to whole world. I have this art few years’ back my sister brought it from India as a gif and it’s 2D form (printmaking). This art is called “four harmonious friends”. The purpose of this art is to construct a meaningful image and form because the story behind art is that how each one of us is responsible for leading the other into virtue; how each of us is at different level than other yet needing each other. At one side it says that it tells respect elder and size doesn’t matter. These four animals they all want to eat the fruits on the tree. The story goes like this at first it was only the bird who lives near the tree since the tree was just a little sprout then as tree grows he can’t reach because he can’t fly, then the rabbit came but rabbit what’s on the ground and could lift on his back so bird could reach the growing tree, and then the monkey came and all four of them came one by one. That’s how it shows on the printing. I don’t know whether it really happened or to give a tangible form to the unknown but everyone in our country consider it as a precious one and almost every family has it in their house. I even don’t know who made this art.

I see art everyday in my living room wall. Every time I pass by the kitchen, to eat, to go out and watch TV I encounter my boyfriends painting he made while being on vacation in Mexico. He gave me that painting as a gift and I love it. The painting is on a canvas and it’s 2 dimensional since it has a flat surface. This piece of art was created to record and commemorate the day’s climate since it had rained almost everyday while he was there. He had gone to some part of Mexico a day after the weather had gotten better. That day, the view he had inspired him to paint it so I can also see it instead of just taking a normal photo. The painting is a record of what was all in front of his eyes. The painting is meaningful because since we live in the city we rarely have views like this unless we go out of the city if we even have time. Normally our everyday view is full of bright streetlights, cars, buildings, noises and trains. This painting represents the peacefulness there is out of the city. No noise, no traffic, no buildings, just you and nature. This painting is also gives me a feeling of calmness. I can imagine myself studying under that tree, reading a book or doing a D.I.Y craft enjoying the fresh air, being stress free. Although we might take for granted how beautiful nature it, the truth is we should always appreciate it and once in a while get away from the city. The painting’s sky has two shades of blue showing how the weather is still undecided if it shall rain or not. We can relate to that because we have been in situations where we also didn’t know what to choose at times. In the background you can see what appears to be a mountain but in reality is the Popocatepetl volcano.

Art you literally see it everywhere, you see them on buildings, floors,walls just everywhere. Some people express their feeling through art, some just draw what they see. This picture right here is a painting that my mom keep in the dining room this picture been in my house for over 10 years i could still remember the day she got it. This picture represent a site in the dominican republic , i find this piece to be beautiful just the way the artist put it all together the way he made the colors pop out just brighten up the room. I'm always looking at this picture when i pass by it, it makes me feel good. This picture is just a simple beautiful drawing that was made in the dominican republic.

I started to look around to find art for homework. I surprisingly realized that the places I ordinary passed everyday were surrounded by arts. I did not usually look around the places I used to go because they are same every day. I also did not give myself time to relax while I was walking. However, since I recognized arts around the places, I realized that they started to look different. They look new places. (The paintings on hallway of my house, entrance of my house, subway, paintings on buildings, restaurants, school and park) One of the arts I was interested was a painting in my house. On the hallway, there are four paintings on the wall. One of these paintings got me attention. I am not sure who is artist because there is no name and date on it. It belongs to my landlord. I think the artist tried to give tangible form to feeling and ideas from this painting. There is one figure who is wearing ballet suit. She looks like wearing her ballet shoes to practice alone at night. The figure does not show her face but I feel that she looks sad. I think that artist expressed the figure’s feeling by using dark background colors. The colors make me feel that she might leave alone to more practice ballet. It looks quiet and calm moment but it looks too quiet to feel lonely. I think the artist successfully expressed well the purpose of art on the painting.

People can describe art can in many different ways, as well as have different feelings towards it. Whether it being a huge sculpture that can be seen and stands out for everyone to see that the artist is trying to make a point or a tattoo on someone's body that is personal and has a deep story behind it. They can look at a sculpture and have no idea what it could mean, while someone else can come with a whole story behind it. This is a sculpture I have in my room and it is my favorite piece of art in my house. I've had this sun and moon sculpture for about 6 years, and I have always kept it hung on my wall. My parents brought this to me from Puerto Rico because it has my two favorite colors and it reminded them of me, since I did not go away with them. I have seen pictures and other sculptures of the sun and moon and each have different meanings based on the colors or facial expression that the artist decides to put on the two faces. Unfortunately, I do not know the artist or even the story behind this sculpture and the meaning for it not being the traditional colors of the actual sun and moon. I can only describe what I think about the sculpture every time I look at it, which is the emotion. Every time I look at it, it reminds me of Puerto Rico and makes me miss seeing all of the other beautiful artwork. It also makes me feel relaxed with the bright colors that makes it stand out on my wall.

Many people use art as a way to express themselves such as emotions and experiences. Although some people do not consider themselves artist but they still do enjoy art and keep them in their home or some simply enjoy seeing them while strolling around in the public. Look around, art is all around us! Where people can see the most art back to back is at a art museum, train station and even at parks. This painting right here is a painting that we keep in my house. This painting came from my country in the Dominican Republic that my father owned for 40 years plus. The painting was brought to the US when my father came to this country. Although this painting might not mean much to other people this painting records and commemorate, the purpose of this painting was for my father to sell painting like this one to earn money to get around. The emotion that the child expresses on the picture is very sad as you can see tears rolling down the cheeks, giving us tangible form to feelings and ideas. What I believe the artist was to trying to make out of this painting was to construct meaningful images and forms by painting a child crying who is upset at something, maybe crying for help, loneliness or even simply because his feelings were hurt. The artist did a successful job trying to express the emotion of this child, by us just taking one look at this painting we can already start to wonder and built stories of why might this child be feeling upset or this could even be the way the artist was feeling as a child.

We see art around us literally everywhere, from building walls to the subway, and even in our own homes. I took this picture of a wooden sculpture in my home that has been in my family ever since I was born and long before it. I do not know the title or the artist who sculpted it, but it was sculpted in the year 1965 in Africa. When my great uncle was in the Navy, he brought it back home with him and gave it to my grandmother who passed it down to my mother.

The art form this piece of art is a 3D sculpture. I think the reason this was sculpted was to record or commemorate. Perhaps the sculptor created this because they or their friend was playing a bongo at the time and wanted to share it with people, or preserve the memory for themself. I am not sure why the head is massive, however. Perhaps this aspect is trying to portray an image or certain feelings. The head shape reminds me of an alien life-form. It could be an alien playing a bongo for all I know, but I think it is a person with a large head because I feel like this sculpture was meant to commemorate an event. Perhaps this was at the time of a festival in an African tribe. The possibilities are endless, and even more so since I do not know much information about it at all except that it was created in 1965.
