I got this drawing from Tate Modern site. The artist name is Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones, Bt. The title of the drawing is Desiderium 1873, The artist used pencil for this drawing. There is a beautiful face of woman on the paper. She looks sad. The artist used a lot of shading in her face. The type of drawing looks like over shading. He looks like used different directions over and over again to make shadow. All the lines are very delicate, so it looks very natural and beautiful. The delicate lines even help to see emotion of the face. Especially a side face of woman looks darker than back of head. Maybe, the artist wants to more focus on that part. The eye, nose and lip parts are the most dark area. Especially, her eyes and closed lips are expressed well to show her emotion. The artist also used very delicate lines for her hairs. I can see even one of hair that how the artist carefully drew it. I can also see how the artist perfectly balanced with her face. It is not easy to draw human face because it is hard to make good balance with eyes, nose and lip. The face looks perfect combination. The shading of face helps look more clear outline of face. The line of jaw is carefully expressed with shading. Her neck is also expressed some part of shading. By lifting her face little bit, some portion of skin of the neck would be pop up. The artist even described the part by shading. It is beautiful drawing.
