This painting I have collected
from the gallery of Brooklyn Museum. It is a 2D form. It has both organic and geometric shapes as the trees have organic and houses have
geometric shapes. I would say the artist has applied the rule of thirds in this
piece of art as in the invisible intersection he has put objects. In this
composition of art some repeated colors such as black, white and blue which are
creating a pattern and this pattern of colors are creating a harmony, which is
ultimately creating a unity. At the same time the texture of the trees are also
creating a sense of oneness or unity. I can see a visual equalization in this art as it is creating balance as there
is a balance between the white color of the street and the black color of the
trees. This art is asymmetrical as it's all parts are not similar. The artist has also applied rule of odd as there is three people in the
painting. The focal point is these three people who are
drawing our attention as the artist intentionally used primary or light color
which is blue. The view in the background which is black and white and the
people who are the emphasis of this art are creating a variety as they are contrasting each
other. I can see both positive and negative spaces such as the space between
the branches of trees and in the windows of the houses are negative spaces. It
has horizontal line which is representing a calm view and the actions of this
art seems to be in motion, to be alive.
Ayesha- this is not a collage. However you made excellent observations of the visual elements.
