Hw #5

I found this painting on the Metropolitan Museum website. This is painting made out of oil on canvas by Pablo Picasso. The title of this painting is called Head of a Woman. When looking at this painting you can see where the face of the woman is but it isn't realistic or doesn't resemble a head of a woman. The style of this piece is abstract, this piece clearly plays with the form of a woman's head. It plays with the form by using different colors and shapes. First thing that came to my attention was the color Picasso used as the skin to make the skin of the women's head. The color seems to be tertiary colors of a blue and purple mixed together. The face of the woman is also uneven as one side is longer than the other side. Also the eyes aren't the same shape, one eye resembles a rhombus. The eyes are also not even, the right eye is lower then the left eye. Picasso uses organic and geometric shapes to play with the head and face of the woman. The ears aren't in place as one is right next to the eye and the other is apart from the other eye. The nose seems to be on the right side of her face as it rests on her left side. Picasso using a large range and making the painting almost non recognizable, he exaggerated the features on the woman's face and played with it.
