Blog Post #8

On Saturday I went to a museum called "Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art" which is located in lower Manhattan on Canal St. I decided to visit this museum because I wanted to see the different types of art involving gay and lesbians and the history behind it. Throughout the museum I seen sculptures, 2D paintings, photographs and even beautiful objects such as cups and vases. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to take photos since it's not permittied in this exhibition. But above are photos from two brochures that I took showing some of the pieces of work and a little brief history about them. Most of the artworks had important meanings that were very interesting. For example, I seen a photograph of a nude male with his back facing a wall and while I was reading the small history it was explaining how this man was hounded by his own kind because he was gay and he wasn't being accepted in his culture, so he was killed by many men. While reading this I realized that when it comes to gays and lesbians they are always looked at differently no matter what and aren't accepted for who they are which is unfair. But not only did this museum had artwork explaining the negative stories of being gay  or lesbian but, it also had the positive stories of happy couples and how being gay or lesbian is slowly being accepted in our word today.
