A Hymn to the Summer of My Long Ago by Paul Bond
As a curator of this show I would put these paintings on the third floor of C building in front of the meditation area. I have selected this place because I think this place is suitable for the paintings I have shared. It is the place where students go since it is a calm and quite area. The students who are tired of this stressed and material life, I have collected these paintings of nature for them. So that these views of nature can offer peace and calmness to their souls and minds. No one wants to have busy and stressed life. We want to be in a place of clam and only nature can bring that peace to us. I have come up with this idea because our college is all about buildings, even though we have some open spaces in E building rest of the buildings have no open spaces where students can go and have the natural air. Since I cannot make the open spaces that are under the sky with nature, I have selected my paintings which will at least make a view or atmosphere. Whenever we look at these, they provide us a peace, calmness and relaxation. In NY it’s hard to observe the beauty of nature, a blessing that we have .My collected these paintings have represented nature in different ways. We don’t have time to see these in our everyday life. There are many students who are working full time and at the same time full time student. For these students I have collected these paintings. Being busy always they can’t see them in real life but when they will look at these paintings in college campus they will lose themselves in beauty, beauty of nature. Through these paintings I do not only Want to show them beauty of nature but also want to inspire them to go out in order to have these moments. So that they can revitalize or refresh their minds. To give them a break, break from stress and break from this material world. These paintings may make them think that what they are missing for so long. I know most of my classmates and friends in the college who are busy with indoor activities, such as video games, watching TV, social media or cell phones. I want them go out and see this beautiful world; there is something else beyond their cell phones. Again, there is something real and these paintings are my medium to send my message to them. A silent medium that will describe my message more than my words. At the same time I want to show them how powerful painting are which can capture this beautiful nature into one paper, as if they pause the moment at the same time make these moments more alive and real.

Firstly, “Sunrise” This painting is representing a beautiful early morning with sunrise. The horizontal lines, the blue color of the sky and the green color of the trees have made this painting cool and calm. It is a representational naturalistic art. The trees and heels are overlapping and it’s an eye level painting. The emphasis of this painting is; the sky and the heels that are having lights from the shining sun. Secondly, “New England Scenery” by Frederic Edwin Church is representing nature with a beautiful lake. Artist has drawn the details activities very carefully. Thirdly, “John and maus : tree house” is a digital art by Niken Anindita. It’s a representational naturalistic painting. It has horizontal lines and value as it has some suggested lights. It’s foreground is the tree, middle ground is water and the sky is the background. Fourthly, “ALLEY BY THE LAKE” by Leonid Afremov is a 2D painting. Since the artist has played with the color in this painting or has altered the original view I would say it’s an abstract painting. It is a vibrant painting that looks so alive. Both cool color blue and worm color orange have made this painting a beautiful combination of night view. This painting is exemplifying the linear prospective since this painting has a single vanishing point. The lights of the lamp-post and the lampposts are also creating a pattern as they are repeated. This repeated pattern has also created a rhythm. Lampposts and the street are having geometric shapes. However, there is no focal point since the eyes moves all over the painting. Lastly, “A Hymn to the Summer of My Long Ago” by Paul Bond which represents a safe and pleasant time with nature. Paul Bond says “this painting speaks to the power and romance of memories.” This art look so real that I would say it is a representational realistic painting. That has a smooth texture. The horizontal line between the sky and sea, the cool blue color of the sky and the sea are making this painting calm. It’s an eye level painting that has both geometric and organic shapes.
However, in terms of variation, their representational forms are different since some of them have realistic, naturalistic and abstract form. Uses of colors are different in each painting. These paintings are from different artists but still they connect to each other. All of them are representing nature. They have horizontal lines which have made them calm and peaceful. All of them are 2D form. All of them are showing us the view of sky and water, water of sea, lake and river. All in all, the purpose of all them is same; representing the nature.

  1. Ayesha- thank you for a great show idea! The meditation area in C is one of my favorite places at school and you picked some very nice works that would enhance the reflective quality of that area. Also, excellent use of course terms to describe the works.
