Empowerment

In today's art event I would like to present you these five paintings of uniquely different flowers created by different artist such as, Gustave Courbet, Jean-Baptistery Monnoyer, Rachel Ruysch, Christoffel Van Den Berghe and Ambrosius Bosschaerts the Elder. These mediums are presented to you in the school first floor on the E building women bathroom, to attract women only. The reason I have chosen this place these five pieces there is because they are as feminine, unique and beautiful as how all women are and should see themselves. The theme of the show today is flowers. These flowers in these paintings represent us beautiful women. How I came up with this idea was because there are women that goes through to many hardship, maybe because they don't like the way they look or don't don't get as much attention as they would like to, women do plastic surgical procedures to boost their confident but they are beautiful the way they already are. These flowers suppose represent how every women is unique beautiful and different from one another no matter if our background or how they look like, us women always stand out with our beauty. My choice of artwork paintings are really early, it might not be everyone cup of tea, but I feel like the really early ones are more special and authentic in my opinion.

As the curator of this show I have chosen this piece by Gustave Courbet ( Bouquet of flowers in a vase, 1862) I like how the background is dark and comoflouges with the leaves of the flowers with brings unity to this painting which shows how us women are united. Although there's unity there's also variety of different kind of flowers which represent the different kind of women in these world. The colors of this painting are repetitive. We can see that the artist used different kind of colors but repeated the same ones. The one that pops out to me is the peachy color one which represent each of us women standing out from our dark background. My next showing of painting is by the artist Jean-Baptiste Monnoyer ( Still life with basket of flowers, 1690s) this artist used sort of the same elements in his painting. The background dark color blends in with the leaves of the flowers. The focal point as we see I again are the peachy pink flowers which are us beautiful women standing out in the crowd. The brush stroke Jean-Baptiste created and his color choices makes these flowers look like they are actual rather than implied. Here we have the following painting by Rachel Ruysch (Still-life with flowers) , Ruysch had many beautiful paintings of flowers but I chosen this particular one because her pattern of colors. We have the vibrant nice colors that create the focal point of this painting and the background blends in with the leaves again. In this painting we have some flowers that are dying, which is at little different from the other artwork. These flowers look like they're dying represent how women feel inside when they have a low self esteem, not knowing how beautiful they look in the outside. My next showing is a painting by Christoffel Van Den Berghe (Still Life With flowers in a Vase, 1617) . This painting shows the dark background again with negative space. We have the rhythm of colors with the greens and the focal point with the beautiful complimentary colors of the variety of flower. My last artwork showing is by Ambrosius Bosschaerts the Elder (Bouquet of flowers in a stone niche, 1618)  the artist shows here negative space and also vibrant complimentary colors that stand out. At the bottom of this painting the artist used the rules of odds with painting three items. The artist emphasis his work on the colors of the flowers making it the focal point . All these five pieces of art work as we can see have the repetition elements with the same dark backgrounds which symbolizes for us women that our background does not make us how we look and feel, the beautiful colors with is the most repetitive and brings these pieces together is the peachy pink flowers which symbolizes us beautiful women. All these flowers in the painting have about the same concept going on and the same focal point making all these five paintings unity and they all represent and interpret how unique and beautiful each one of us women are.

  1. Good job Yamilka! By showing very similar works (in subject) we are able to look more carefully and see the differences in each artists style. But where would this show be located on campus? Who is the audience? That was part of the assignment!
