My show would be shown around the pool areas like the hallways that lead to the pool and the pool cafe. I picked these areas because my show is about water and people who enjoy the water. People who are most likely to see the pieces of art I've picked for my show are those who are going to the pool or those who eat in the cafe. The audience my show is trying to reach are those who enjoy the water whether it's pool water or the ocean. Also those who enjoy swimming as a hobby or as a sport. The theme is my show is people in the water. It deals with people who enjoy being in the water as a way to work out, swim, relax or even a sport. The idea of water as my theme came to me because one we have a pool in our campus which is pretty neat and speaking for myself I love to swim as a hobby, also as a way of clearing my head or relaxing. I think the shows important because people have their ways of finding something to do just to clear their heads or just needing to get away for awhile. I think going for a swim or a dip in the pool is on of many ways to relax. My first choice of work is a painting by Samantha french. The medium of this is a painting. I picked this piece because it shows a girl floating with her face above the water. I think that floating in the water is a way to relax while in the pool. The artist used tertiary colors here like the blue of the water and the shade along the girls arm. Also French used texture with the water. The water's quality almost looks real. Another piece I picked is a photograph of body art. This has to be my favorite out of all five. I think this is an amazing piece and a great way representing water movement. I decided to pick this because it shows movement of water. The artist, Gesine Marwedel used negative space which is the blank parts of her body and the background to make the positive space pop. In the positive space she used primarily and tertiary colors. Marwedel also uses focal point to have the viewers look specifically at the shape of the body and the wave painted onto the body. The third piece I chose is an installation made by Bill Viola. The installation is it shows three nude figures in water with a soundtrack of sounds like murmurs. On the ground in front of the projections there is slabs of granite that make the figures look like they are swimming in dark pools. I found this to be pretty awesome which is one reason why I picked it but also because it shows three figures swimming endlessly and peacefully. Viola used the rule of odds in the installation as there is only three figures seen. My fourth pick was a painting by Eric Zener. I picked this painting because it shows the boy just letting himself sort of rest as he is heading down in the water and this relates to my theme of people enjoying the water. Zener used value here which is implied light. You can see the implied light as the water has those white spots that look like they light up. He also used primarily colors, which is the blue throughout the background of the painting. My last choice was a photograph by Harold Edgerton. I decided to pick this one because it shows a man going head firs into the water and in swimming diving is a sport. These five pieces I picked are connectied to each other because it's people in different ways enjoying the water they are in. These pieces are also connected to my theme because they deal with people in the water and also deals with water. I feel like the pieces show how relaxing it is or how it can be enjoyed.
excellent work Damaris- this is such a great idea for a show at school. Very creative theme and choice of location, and great work using course terms in your writing.
