Midterm

                                                                                          The artist that I was assign to is name Cindy Sherman. She was born on January 19,1954 she is 60 years old and she’s from Glen Ridge, New Jersey. Cindy does some very different and creative art that I never seen or heard of and it called conceptual portraits. She photography herself in every portrait that she takes she makes herself look like a different person. Cindy Sherman use to be a painter but than she shifted her attention to photography. When she was in collage she made this book of doll clothes of herself and when she was taking this film class they wanted to bring her artwork to life so she shot herself doing all the position that was in the book. Cindy will take pictures and will cut them out and make a story with her character. When she move to new york she got tired of cutting the pictures up to tell a story so she decide to take them in one shot. Cindy don’t really title her art because she don’t want the title to make people imagine what it say, she just want them to think for their self. There was a centerfold picture that she did; it showed a girl laying in bed. This picture identifies a woman with a bad hangover just waking up from a crazy night but some people though that the women in the picture was a raped victim. When she was younger she use to have this book of pictures of herself and in every picture she will circle herself and write under it saying “that’s me”. Cindy kept it going for while but than she forgot about it until she got to collage she decide to update it so when she went back to it she kind of fake her hand writing making it seem like she was doing while she was growing up. Cindy did this because shoe found it interesting to look at herself changing in ever picture. That’s why every picture she do she makes her self a different person cause she like to see what she could do with herself.  When Cindy does the process of making her characters she will first take a picture of herself and in every shot she would change she will put makeup, wigs, noses, and even teeth until she makes her self look like she want to.  She likes her picture to be really big for it could be in your face. All her art work is pretty interesting to look at as you could see on the top there are three different pictures of Cindy Sherman looking like somebody else.
