Essay #2

During last week class we went to visit different art galleries located in Chelsea Piers in lower manhattan. Throughout the trip I exprienced new artwork of several artists that are still around today. There were a couple of paintings and sculptures that caught my attention in many ways. One of these paintings is 2D and located above on the right hand corner. This painting was made by Wu Jian'an and is called "Transformation" and is located at the Chambers Fine Art gallery where many of his work is shown. While viewing this piece I noticed that he used watercolor paint for each type of circle that is made up of different designs. Also it's cool to look at a bunch of circles that are made up of different patterns because you can see how all of them are related to one another somehow involving a specific color. I can also see the combination of primary colors and complementary colors which makes the painting stand out more than usual. Another 2D painting made by Wu Jian'an that was very outstanding is the one located on the left hand corner. Now this artwork is unique because he used candle wax throughout the painting which is very talented and that material is not used so often by other artists. I realized that most of his work expresses abstraction, repetition and installation. Not only did the work of Wu Jian'an caught my attention but it made me realize that art doesn't always have to be made for a specific purpose but it can be made to give the audience a view of  alive art. The last piece of artwork that caught my attention is show above in the center. This is a 3D sculpture that was created by Takashi Murakami which is made out of gold. It's located in the Gagosian Gallery where most of his work is presented to different people. Within the sculpture I like how he decided to use snakes which makes it look fashionable because it looks like the snakes are powerful and important since they are made out of gold. The last thing I would like to point out about this sculpture is the size and how it looks so fragile because the gold material looks likea piece of alluminum foil but it isn't .

  1. good job- a few corrections though- the material Wu Jian'an used is colored wax- a little different than candle wax and it is not an installtion, it's a 2D artwork. (it was on paper in a frame.)
