Blog Post 8

Today I went to the Museum of Moving Image, and I enjoyed my experience. I had gone when it had first opened and it a great experience as well. I find it amazing how such a small and recent museum can have most of the coolest and oldest equipment. I started from the top floor and made my way down to the first. On the top floor they had an exhibit based on the works of Chuck Jones. I was surprised that he was the master- mind behind all the amazing cartoons that are still known today. Going through that exhibit I saw how simple the sketches and story lines were that made such an impact on cartoon history. The most simple story I saw was the dot and line, even though it didn’t seem like much, it caught my attention on how interesting he made it become. I was also didn’t know that it was the same man behind bugs bunny as well as the Grinch. The other part of the museum had a lot of old equipment that was used to make shows and movies as well as the oldest televisions I have ever seen. Even though the televisions sets were probably older then my grandmother, it made me want to have one. I also saw models and masks from the biggest thriller films, like the Exorcist and Nightmare on Elm Street, as well as the makeup that was used from television shows and record players from the most known bands and singers. Another section of the museum looked like a huge arcade and had the oldest games that you were able to play with tokens and a “King Tut” theater. This museum is one of my favorite museums that I have been to so far. I enjoy that it does show the history behind what is being shown but in a way that doesn’t bombard you with a paragraph for each picture, as some museums do.

Blog post #8

Today, I visited the Museum of Moving Image, and I had a lot of fun. There were fascinating exhibits that showed props and outfits from TV shows or movies, toys, and tools from a generation younger than my own. It was really amazing to see up close how things were before we had such advanced things like smart TVs and smart phones, etc. Before TVs were invented, to watch things, people would have to crank a lever in a machine that would flip through images to create animation and movement. There was no sound so you would just have to imagine the effects as you watched or process what was happening in silence. As for video cameras and microphones, I noticed that everything older is bigger. As time passed, people have been able to create smaller tools to carry around easier and because ways have been created to make memory be compact in smaller containers all while making larger amount of memory in the containers, people have evolved to figure this out and advance as humans; I find that so interesting. But I did not only learn about that at the Museum of Moving Image; I also saw some six minute animations from artists. I have tried to do animation before, and have found out that without the proper equipment and knowledge, it is very hard. The shorts were amusing and making these last six minutes must have been hard work. Lastly, there was a special exhibit dedicated to Chuck Jones, that will be lasting until January. I was excited about this exhibit because I admire Jones' work and his cartoons were my childhood. I was able to see sketches he had done of his characters, backgrounds with long widths and tall heights, and his animation that I grew up with. I had such a fun time and would love to see more.

Essay #2

The class trip to the Chelsea galleries was an interesting one. I got to see different artists and their works. The pictures that I have posted here are the few that I liked the most and found intriguing. The first two pictures are from the artist Takashi Murakami. His exhibit was called "In the Land of the Dead, Stepping on the Tail of a Rainbow." The first picture captured my attention because it captured expression with the words death, hate, and I. Then the background consisted of different color skulls which was pretty cool. I like the fact that he linked the word death with the skulls in this picture. The second one interested me just because I found it odd. There are two creatures heads in the center of the painting and in the lower creatures heads there seem to be other beings inside of its mouth. The light blue background also makes the picture kind of pop and captures your attention.
The third picture is from the Francesco Clemente "Two Tents" exhibit. This was just basically two tents that were painted inside and out with great detail. The outside of the tent is pretty much just a pattern painting and then the inside has a lot more detail to it.  The fourth painting come from the Arturo Herrera exhibit. This painting seems to be a painting of colors within a painting. The outer layer is the brownish white and the inner layer has the green, red, yellow, and blue color. I couldn't figure out if the paining has a deeper meaning to it or if it's simply what is painted there. The fifth painting is from the Anton Kern gallery. I really like how this painting was done. It has a nice blue background that captures your attention and the bright orange lines just seem to pop out right at you. These lines are all connected together and at the end of each of them was a different picture of something whether it was a car, field, or lady which i found interesting. The sixth picture is from the Chamber of Fine Art gallery. Now this painting is a painting that looked like it took a while to paint just because of the detail and all the different colors used all over it. It is basically a head of a wolf painted on some kind of designed paper that almost looks like ones of those plastic table cloths.  The last picture comes the David Zwirner  exhibit. This painting i found odd as well as the rest of them. All of his paintings seem to have people in then that are part animal or some kind of monster. They either have wings or claws on them. In this picture it seems like a women is coming out of the sea creature that is cut open and laying on the ground. These works of art seem to be more unique and different than the artist of older times. These painting use a lot more bright colors and a lot of them are more random than the basic paintings of that are more common in the older generations. These do seem more relevant to our world because it shows that you express yourself anyway that you want. They strife for their art to be different. That's what makes it unique and captures the attentions of others. The one that really seemed like a lot of handwork was put into it was the two tents exhibit. Just the fact that the outside and the inside of it were both painted fully and with great detail showed how much effort and dedication the artist put into this work. That's the one I was most impressed by and I appreciated the most.

Essay#2

In the beginning of the journey of visiting Chelsea galleries in last Friday (11/14/2014) was not really interesting to me. It was cold out there and I had to wake up in the morning and run to Manhattan. However, we started from the “Hauser & Wirth” gallery. There was only one artwork, which is called “MounRoom” by Thomas Houseago. After saw that I started to feel good because Istarted to see precious works of famous artists.
After that we visited some more galleries and I just amazed to see thoseworks. Those were really impressed me. I could not ignore any part of an art because every single inch is equally valuable. For example, in the “David zwirnergallery I saw some art by Neo Rauch, I felt a relationship among those arts and there are many important meanings, values and thinks in every artwork. To see those painting I can plot a religious image in my mind. May be the artist wanted to represent the sacrifice animals for god or killing them and so on. If I see part by part I can notice color, shape, light and dark combination. Although people’s face, their mood everything is so clear to see, I could not make conclusion right way about the subject of the artsThose made me think.
Furthermore, in the “Chambers fine art” what I saw it was just amazing. The artist, Wu Jian’an played with the shapes and colors. When I looked in the middle art of the image 2, I could not close my eyelids. There was hundreds circles in that art and each circle was in different color. I saw how variety and similarity can strongly stay together in one art. Another interesting thing is the artist used paper cut as his preferred mediumThere were some other arts those are also represented similarity and variety in same artwork. In “Anton kern galley I saw some artwork by Chris Martin where he used Acrylic, glitter and collage on canvas. Those were also wonderful creation.
Also in the “jack shainman gallery” I found some different artwork where the artist. Fl Anatsui used clay, metal, and wood to create installation art based on traditional as his media. Those were really attractive. In the Mary Boone Gallery I saw two tent created by Francesco Clemente. Those were not only tents; also there were many artworks in the outside and the inside of the tents. The last but not least gallery was “Gagosian gallery”. When I entered into that gallery I just blast. There were many arts made with metal medium. I liked those very much.
It is impossible to evaluate those arts. All are unique. Every work amazed me differently. Finally, I understand that whatever I felt in the beginning it really does not matter, but matter was what I felt in the end. It made my day.

Essay 2

While looking at the many pics if art by the many different artists, I realized that art is a big part of the city we live in. It was an amazing experience going to all the galleries and looking at art made by artists currently alive. Because of this, I did feel like I could relate to some of the pieces because they were used with materials that make it look more modern. To me, I didn't expect to see so many different galleries located in the same area. When I think about art galleries, I think about these huge halls that scale from large building to giant walls of art. During the trip, I learned that many of the galleries known are relatively small and can be accessed by anyone. It makes me realize that art comes in many shapes and forms. These differences can be noticed throughout the large variety of artists seen. Some like to create small paintings and other like to create pieces the size of buildings. This made me aware that art can take many forms, like interactive art and how it plays with your perspective of things. As an example of an artist that uses interactive art, as well as a diverse range of exhibition, Takashi Murakami specializes in Japanese styled art. His work demonstrated the use of large pieces of colorful and significant sculptures of traditional demons in Japanese culture, and even what it seems to be a temple entrance. His paintings consist of dynamic characters, painted in very bright warm and cool colors, that show a dramatized version of the modern Japanese culture. His artwork is a mix of modern and traditional style, and that's what made it stand out for me. The galleries now have a more significant value to me and I will have to go back.

Chelsea Piers Experience

I've been to Chelsea Piers before and I never knew there were art galleries embodying its surroundings. Regardless of my nostalgic feelings upon my return, you learn something new and continue to be surprised. Going through the art galleries I wasn't sure how to feel, there were so many pieces of art I felt overwhelmed. From what I was able to fully collaborate my thoughts was from the exhibit of Wu Jian'an Gallery.  The pattern and rhythm I experienced through her/his artwork had such clarity I felt a sudden connection. I was surprised by the techniques that was used during the creation of a piece of artwork where circles were the repetitive aspect of it. I was also wondering how this artist was able to use melted crayon to create this piece so well, its precision was absolutely astonishing. I came across another piece that was purely made out of paper cut outs and the artist created a wolf, but it was not just a wolf; if you look closer the wolf face was made up of smaller pictures that was Asian culture related. my interpretation of the artwork was that the pictures enveloped in the wolf's face was a demonstration of the Asian world or a brief look into the fantasy that is the artists world. If I had a more elaborate understanding of some of the Asian calligraphy I'd have a more definite description of what I saw. The inspiration that the artists use to create each piece of work could be utterly different or different inspiration that was born from similar inspirations itself. I've always been fascinated with artwork that was developed from the Asian culture because it's the only thing that really caught my eye in the past up to now. There was a 3D sculpture where it was an inspiration from the artist girlfriend whose name was Luna, he created a sort of playground experiencing different phases that the moon goes through. Makes me wonder what my inspirations are--I remember an Artist name Rackshaw who said that you start off with a reason with your piece but then as you progress your reason disappears because you're so wrapped up in the piece itself. I feel like that every time I I make a different portrait or collage of something. Everyone has an outlet of expression and I like to remind myself that every time because I'm always surprised and I try so eagerly to interpret their expression because I want to be able to understand the artist. I think when someone can't express through words how they feel, they find another way of speaking to the masses; to help them understand. I've always had a difficult time of expressing myself through words whether it be because the English language is so arduous when it comes to finding the right words, you can find it through other means. I once believed that the artist who created the tents was trying to demonstrate the world gov'ts control and how a home can be guarded by angels. The first tent I went in I saw this same reoccurring face every time I looked at a different wall in the tent. I saw a man with an monocle with a curved mustache, he was always next to a different line of business from what I believe was slavery to today's life. That behind it all the gov't was an influence on it. My perception may be a bit rough but I wasn't one to express myself through words very well. I will be returning to the galleries to experience many other artists so I can enjoy it while I can.

Essay #2

On Friday I went to a trip to go and visit galleries. My overall experience was I really enjoyed the trip. I actually enjoyed it more then expected because it was pretty cold and windy that day. Despite the weather I found some of the work in the art galleries just amazing. My favorite gallery that we visited was Takashi Murakami gallery.

In Murakami's gallery one of the first things that grabbed my attention was the two photos shown on top. The colors the artist used and the design along with the shapes look great. The colors make this picture pop so much. Murakami used the shape of circles more then once in both works of art. Another work of art that was absolutely amazing was the gold sculpture shown also on top. When I walked into the room and saw this I automatically thought oh my god, this is freaking amazing. As I was looking at the sculpture up close the material use to create it allowed me to be able to see my reflection off of the sculpture which I thought was pretty cool.

The second gallery I enjoyed was the very first one we visited, the Thomas Houseago gallery. I liked that I was able to go inside and look around, getting an up close look at the huge sculpture. Out of all the art I've come across and seen this was actually one of my first times being able to actually go inside a sculpture. For my first time it was really nice, the sculpture felt like a small maze. As I walked through the maze you could openings and closed off parts of it. Also I could see all the different shapes Houseago used to create the sculpture. One shape I noticed that the artist used a lot was circles.

From the trip my favorite piece of art is the one shown above. I unfortunately can't remember from what art gallery this was from. A reason why I really like it is because it clearly deals with music and I really do enjoy listening to music. Also I think this piece of art really does relate to present day art because just as art is everywhere in New York in different forms, size, color, and so on, music is also all around New York in different sounds and style. I also enjoy this piece because it's shows the history of music and it kind of shows how long it's been around.

Essay #2

During last week class we went to visit different art galleries located in Chelsea Piers in lower manhattan. Throughout the trip I exprienced new artwork of several artists that are still around today. There were a couple of paintings and sculptures that caught my attention in many ways. One of these paintings is 2D and located above on the right hand corner. This painting was made by Wu Jian'an and is called "Transformation" and is located at the Chambers Fine Art gallery where many of his work is shown. While viewing this piece I noticed that he used watercolor paint for each type of circle that is made up of different designs. Also it's cool to look at a bunch of circles that are made up of different patterns because you can see how all of them are related to one another somehow involving a specific color. I can also see the combination of primary colors and complementary colors which makes the painting stand out more than usual. Another 2D painting made by Wu Jian'an that was very outstanding is the one located on the left hand corner. Now this artwork is unique because he used candle wax throughout the painting which is very talented and that material is not used so often by other artists. I realized that most of his work expresses abstraction, repetition and installation. Not only did the work of Wu Jian'an caught my attention but it made me realize that art doesn't always have to be made for a specific purpose but it can be made to give the audience a view of  alive art. The last piece of artwork that caught my attention is show above in the center. This is a 3D sculpture that was created by Takashi Murakami which is made out of gold. It's located in the Gagosian Gallery where most of his work is presented to different people. Within the sculpture I like how he decided to use snakes which makes it look fashionable because it looks like the snakes are powerful and important since they are made out of gold. The last thing I would like to point out about this sculpture is the size and how it looks so fragile because the gold material looks likea piece of alluminum foil but it isn't .

I loved the trip that we had on Friday, it was a lot of fun even though it was cold and windy.  It was my first time visiting those kinds of galleries. Honstly I didn’t know that we can get in those Galleries for free. It was very surpricing for me, because I thought that we were going to see  galleries that were on the public street. But thanks God we were able to warmed up a little be while we were inside the galleries. What was very interesting for me was that those artwork was too expensive and I know that there are certain people who are willing to buy them. Another thing that attracts my attention was that there were many art works that were so simple. I have to say that this people do amazing works and have a great imagination to make art out of thing that for some people are useless. For example there was a gallery where there were some artworks that were cover by frost. I could do that too. That’s why when I saw them I thought that I can become an artist as well. I am just kidding!!!For me it was hard to choose a favorite one among them because each one of them is unique. The galleries had different kinds of wonderful works ones more interesting than others.  I love the gallery where it was the art work of the Chinese artist. The artist used melted crayons to do those amazing art  works .That was the gallery that I liked most.  The artist played with differents types of colors. I have to say that the artist had a bright idea. Because those art works seems to be from oil because they seem to be very bright but that is the effect that the crayons have. It was very nice Day I enjoyed it a lot. I hope all my classes were like this, but Not they are so boring. ;(

Essay 2

On Friday we went on a trip to see artwork. At first I wasn't really feeling it because it was to cold and I wanted to stay home I thought that we was going to be walking around in the cold see art outside but when I realized that we was seeing art in gallery's it made me a little bit happier. The art that I have seen all of them was amazing in there own way. In the first gallery that we went to was a big piece of art, it's a big box that you could walk in it was made by Thomas houseago. It's called the moun room It's about 37 feet by 45 feet wide and 12 feet tall. When I was walking around the art I was wondering what was it made by and I figure it out when I read the paper it said that it is built from individual panels made of TUF-CAL plaster and link together through the use of iron re-bar. When I first saw that art I just wonder to myself how long did it take him to do that because it was a big piece. We saw a lot of art on Friday all of them was really unique in there own way but there was one that I really got hook on which was the last gallery we went too. I wish I knew who the artist was but I forgot but his art was amazing. The way the colors pop, I couldn't take my eye off of it. In all his painting he got a signature sign, which is the skulls you see them everywhere. There was two other ones that I love which was the two big sculptures of the Bulls or Devils I really don't know what they are but there are amazing he put some much details into them. I wonder how long did it take him to do both of them. Even though I was so happy about the trip it was worth it to go because I saw all those amazing painting.

Essay # 2

If I had to describe the Chelsea galleries trip in one word, it would be exciting. It was not my first visit to an art gallery, nor was it my first time in a Chelsea gallery, but the memories from that day will stay with me forever. It was an absolute pleasure to be around so many people enthusiastic about art! Furthermore, lets face it, we often take for granted the amazing art and culture at our fingertips being mere residents of New York City. What I found to be most interesting was just how accommodating the galleries are. We were a large group of students, yet we were not turned away except for the one Picasso exhibit (which I DID check out, and it was incredible!). It just goes to show you that even though galleries are of course in the business of making money, they still understand what a piece of art is all about, and that is to be viewed and appreciated. What better way is there to spend a random Friday afternoon?? Here are a few of my personal favorites from the first hour of our trip:

Transformation by Wu Jian'an was a breathtaking exhibit. I literally have a half dozen or so of his works that will be taking turns being my new screensavers lol.

I love that we followed the Metropolitan Museum of Art trip with the Chelsea one. Every piece of art that we saw on Friday was created recently, by artists that are alive and relevant right now. That is important for the casual fan to see, because the vast majority of people simply believe that a piece of artwork is often only valuable AFTER the artist has passed away. It is a terrible lie that plagues the industry, and in my opinion, discourages quite a few would-be artists from pursuing their dreams! "What's the point of creating art, if it will only be worth something after I'm dead and gone?" I am paraphrasing a bit here, but I have heard these questions quite a few times in my life, and it's unfortunate.

The biggest "connection" that I had with an artist on Friday would have to be during the Takashi Murakami exhibit. I could think of literally a thousand ways to describe what I felt, but most important to me was the emotion behind the work. I love the artist's use of vivid colors, and his own special way of adding Japanese culture to his pieces. While Takashi's sculptures were incredible to see, the work that touched me the most was the one that stretched the entire wall of the main room. I took a panoramic picture of it with my phone, and pasted it below for you all to see:

In the end, I found the experience of the Chelsea galleries to be wonderful. I hope to go back and visit some of the ones that we missed, but will probably wait till the weather gets a bit warmer. As young art lovers, I feel it's our responsibility to share these experiences with our friends and families. Chelsea is a hidden treasure, and it deserves to be seen by everyone.

I hope to see you all again there soon :)

Essay 2

Our trip to Chelsea galleries was Amazing. I have really enjoyed visiting different galleries and observing different types of arts. First of all, Houseago’s “Moun Room” amazed me because I have never seen before any art or sculpture like that. The physical space of this sculpture makes this one more special than others. It is a three dimensional sculpture composed of three chambers within one another. This 'Moun Room' seems to have both negative and positive spaces and some kind of rhythm and movement as well. While reading the description of it’ I have noticed artist’s opinion where he described this work as 'a visual maze with a spiritual dimension.
Wu Jian'an gallery was my favorite one because his arts are different than others and eye-catching. In the first painting the way he has drawn different Chinese characters was really interesting. He has captured all kinds of characters in his one painting. I was wondering how he has drawn these faces but I got my answer at the bottom of the painting as he has showed how he started drawing these different faces. However, in the second painting I guess he has depicted any historical story or moment. This painting shows depression and mourning. The third painting I have collected made me stop and look at it for a while. In this painting he has used some pattern of connectivity. These overlapping multi- colored balls which have created a beautiful blend of colors. It has both unity and Varity. While Different colors are creating Varity, the circular geometric shapes of balls are creating unity. These colored balls look like bobbles creating pattern, rhythm and making the eyes move all over the painting, over all I would say it’s a beautiful painting.

I would say Gagosian Gallery is an excellent gallery and great place for large-scale works. This one has more lighting and plenty of space for displaying larger paintings. Takashi Murakami’s different kinds of sculptures and paintings are really attractive. He has used Japanese painting technique. His paintings and sculpture are colorful and full of fun. I have really enjoyed his all paintings and gigantic sculptures. The first sculpture I have shared, presenting a devil character while the second one is really charming, I wish it were a robot because it seems to me something funny and real. The last painting I have shared is stunning as well. In this painting artist has depicted different types of facial expression in different ways with bright colors, beautiful background and pattern. To sum up, it was a very informative and interesting trip for me. Through these different contemporary arts I am getting more interest in art now.
